Velcrocranes – Afterlife, Pt. 2 (Official Video)

Velcrocranes – Afterlife, Pt. 2 (Official Video), taken from ’What If I Die’. ‘Afterlife, Pt. 2’ is probably the heaviest song from the album which evolved from an instrumental bridge of ‘Afterlife, Pt. 1’. And whereas the first part of this ‘prog-epic’ serves as a reminder of human mortality, ‘Afterlife, Pt. 2’ draws a picture of an abyss and nothingness which appear together with the awareness of death. It appeals to a possible perception of death and its impact on your choices and actions during a lifetime. The main idea here is quite existential because we are sure that there’s no fixed set of goals or meanings which are true for everyone and valued the same by everyone. It’s actually quite the opposite – you find your own meanings and adjust them throughout life. It could be anything – from ‘chasing the sound’ to baking cookies. It’s certainly not guaranteed that you would be able to reach this till you die but it’s essential to try. The song speaks about how the perception of death impacts on our choices and actions during a lifetime – a very existential idea which states that there’s no fixed set of goals or meanings which are true for everyone – you simply find your own meanings – anything from ‘chasing the sound’ to baking cookies.
