Hank Jones - Lady Luck

Lady Luck by Thad Jones Hank Jones - piano, Ivan Taylor - bass, Marion Felder - drums Hank Jones Trio soundcheck rehearsal at Spoleto Festival, Charleston, South Carolina. Spoleto Festival USA’s Wachovia Jazz Series, May 26, 2006 This composition was written by Thad Jones and it is a slick contrafact of the popular standard “Taking a Chance on Love“ by Vernon Duke. Lady Luck was probably first recorded on the great drummer Elvin Jones’ recording called “Elvin!“ in 1962. This album is a rare recording of all three brothers Jones, Elvin, Thad and Hank playing together. They were joined by Frank Wess and Frank Foster on tenor and flute and Art Davis on bass. Hank Jones often performed this tune. He has recorded it on a beautiful album “Upon Reflection, the music of Thad Jones“ (1994): some other versions: Hank Jones Trio - Donostia J
