She is often described as the protector and guardian of the forest and all the creatures that inhabit it. According to the legends, Muma Pădurii has a deep connection with nature and possesses magical powers. În tradiția populară românească este o vrăjitoare urâtă, sihastră, care locuiește în adâncul pădurii și sperie oamenii. Se pare că este prezentă în folclorul popoarelor slave sub numele de Baba Iaga.
