Class Writing Activity: Create a Setting for a Story

Your task is this. Write the beginning of a story by describing that story’s setting. Be specific about where and when the story takes place. What you want to focus on is up to you. You could describe a city, a house, a country, a coffee shop, a castle, an era such as the roaring 20’s in the United States, or perhaps ancient Rome. Whatever setting you choose, be specific. Here is an example of a descriptive setting written by C.S. Lewis in his novel the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. There was crisp, dry snow under his feet and more snow lying on the branches of the trees. Overhead there was pale blue sky, the sort of sky one sees on a fine winter day in the morning. Straight ahead of him he saw between the tree-trunks the sun, just rising, very red and clear. Everything was perfectly still, as if he were the only living creature in that country. There was not even a robin or a squirrel among the trees, and the wood stretched as far as he could see in every direction. Now it is your turn to create a setting. A classmate is going to use your setting to write a short story. And you are going to be given a setting written by a classmate, and you will need to finish that story. So get writing, and good luck. 🔔 SUBSCRIBE for more for online teaching resources: 🎥 WANT TO CREATE VIDEOS LIKE THESE?
