Salve Regina - Organ Improvisation | VU St. John’s Church

Today I’d like to share with you my improvisation on the beloved Gregorian chant tune Salve Regina and a little lesson. @AusraMotuzaite and I recently had to play during one memorial ceremony at Vilnius University and this beautiful tune was one of the improvisations I played there. Notice how in the second phrase I hit the wrong note in the melody (D which became C right away) at 00:12. To make this improvisation realistic, I had to pretend I did it on purpose and what’s the best way to do it? To repeat the mistake. You can see them all over the place in this improvisation and they became an integral part of the piece. Remember to repeat your mistakes in improvisation without stopping of course. I know it sounds counter-intuitive but that’s a very powerful advice which might one day save your playing in public. You’re welcome!
