Medinet Habu is a large-scale temple complex located on the west bank of the Nile near the city of Luxor. It was built during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses III, the last of the great kings of the New Kingdom, when Egypt entered a period of prosperity for the last time in its entire three thousand-year history. This is a striking and best-preserved example of the mortuary temple of the rulers of the New Kingdom. Ramses III took the throne after his father’s short two-year reign.
