Unissued / Unused material. Press conference at NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) headquarters. Palais de Chaillot, Paris, France. MS General Matthew Ridgway, Admiral Robert Carney, and Louis Mountbatten seated on dais. Various shots as Mountbatten says: “I’ve come up to see General Ridgway and Admiral Carney, and to find out exactly what they want to do. I should like to say that we have already had a very close liaison with Admiral Carney’s headquarters and the British headquarters in Malta, so the task of taking over will be easy and pleasant. Furthermore as Admiral Carney already has an efficient staff administering the Command, I can take it over at a reasonable pace and not in a tremendous rush before it’s ready to take the weight. I am, therefore, very grateful to Admiral Carney for the close liaison we have always had and for the arrangements I am sure he will make“. CU Ridgway introducing Admiral Carney.
