The Executions Of The Final Days Of Dachau

The first concentration camp to be opened inside of Hitler’s Germany was Dachau. It was a huge camp and over 188,000 prisoners were imprisoned there and over 40,000 would never make it out alive. It was a site which was synonymous with torture with devices such as the standing cells used, and the SS guards were incredibly brutal and were schooled in horrific treatment. Prisoners were treated awfully, however it was the Americans who liberated Dachau in 1945 and they found a site of true hell on earth. Thousands of corpses lay around the camp, and they also found a number of SS guards who were responsible for the crimes. But as the Americans took control of Dachau, there were a number of executions of SS guards which occurred. These were known as The Dachau Liberation Reprisals, as a young machine gunner executed over a dozen SS guards.
