Black Belt Magazine Presents NUNCHAKU Karate weapon of Self - Defense By Fumio Demura The nunchaku is a weapon used by karate students in the practice of Kobudo , a weapons art that evolved along with karate centuries past in Okinawa. Movements used in Kobudo and nunchaku training in this video, are based on karate movements, the weapon being considered an extension of the hands and body. The repeatable format of this 60-minute instructional martial arts program should allow students with good karate basics to learn to use the nunchaku in a traditional manner. Fumio Demura studied under Ryusho Sakagami and KenshinTaira, the legendary Okinawan master. Demura has been studying kobudo and karate for 34 years and is a member of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) national technical commitee. He is president of the Japan Karate Federation (JKF) of america, and president of JKF Internationa, and has been twice honored by BLACK BELT Magazine’s Hall of Fame, once in a 1969 as Karate Sensei of the Year
