Men’s Olympic triathlon postponed because of unsafe water quality

The grand plan to hold the swimming leg of the Olympic triathlon in the Seine has seriously backfired with a decision taken on Tuesday morning to postpone the men’s race until Wednesday because of unsafe levels of bacteria in the water. The men are now scheduled to go at , directly after the women’s race at 8am. However, that could have a seriously negative impact on performance when temperatures are expected to rise to 35 degrees. In a three-discipline event that will last about 1hr 45min, it could certainly be uncomfortably warm by the time Great Britain’s Alex Yee and the other 54 competitors are contesting the concluding 10km run in central Paris.
