Amen break sample for use in music production (136 bpm) The “Amen Break“ is a commonly sampled drum loop originating from the song “Amen, Brother“ by The Winstons, written in 1969. You might recognize it from “Straight Outta Compton“, by ., where it is slowed down. Despite being the most used sample in the history of music, the drummer who originally played the break, Gregory S. Coleman, died homeless in poverty. The rest of the Winstons also never received any royalties. The copyright owner of the Amen Break is Richard L. Spencer, lead vocalist and sax player of the Winstons.
