The mystery of the “Ural syndrome“ was tried to solve for more than 10 years after the region faced an epidemic unknown to doctors in the early 30s. The disease began as a common sore throat, but was characterized by bleeding and high mortality. The infection spread to about a hundred settlements, and the quarantine measures introduced did not change the situation. The best doctors in the country argued with each other until they were hoarse, and some of the authorities even declared counter-revolutionaries. The answer came only 10 years later.
