Although President Donald Trump ensured that Riyadh and Washington maintained cordial ties till the time he was in the White House, things took a dramatic turn with Joe Biden’s ascension to power. As President, Joe Biden was quick to act. He steered the United States away from Saudi Arabia, joining ranks with Europe in condemning alleged Saudi human rights violations. Biden declared Saudi Arabia was a “pariah state”. The United States and Europe stopped selling weapons to the Gulf kingdom. Basically, things got pretty ugly between Saudi Arabia and the West.
