Magnitude 9.1 Earthquake in Japan March 11, 2011 Compilation - Part 4

Part 4 compilation of the powerful magnitude 9.0–9.1 undersea megathrust earthquake off the Pacific coast of Japan that occurred at 14:46 JST on March 11, 2011, with the epicenter approximately 70 kilometers (43 mi) east of the Oshika Peninsula of Tohoku and the hypocenter at an underwater depth of approximately 29 km (18 mi) lasting approximately six minutes. The powerful earthquake caused giant tsunami waves estimated to be as high as 38 meters (124.7 ft.) that destroyed towns and cities near the shore that killed over 15,899 people, 6,157 injured, 2,529 people missing. It also caused a nuclear disaster in Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, causing a forced evacuation of 83,000 residents from towns around the plant. The total damage of this disaster is $360 billion, known as the costly natural disaster in the century.
