Babi Yar was one of the greatest crimes of WWII. The Germans determined to ’sanitise’ the site of the massacre by destroying all the buried bodies. For the concentration camp inmates forced to do this grim work, they faced a choice between being killed by the SS or staging a mass breakout in the hope that some could survive. This is their story.
