OM Meditation – The Ecstatic Journey of Transcendence

How ecstatic, transcendent experiences arise in pure consciousness can be discovered by meditating on the sacred syllable OM as taught by the ancient rishi who composed the Mandukya Upanishad. According to the non-dual teachings of advaita Vedanta, the syllable om is grammatically divided into a, u, and m, the letter a representing the waking state, jagrat avastha, u representing the dream state, svapna avastha, and m representing the deep sleep state, sushupti avastha. The gap of silence between repetitions of om represent chit, consciousness, the true self, atma, with remains present as the sakshi, awareful witness to the three states. Like water fundamentally unaffected by ripples and waves, atma is fundamentally unaffected by vrittis, mental activities which are like vibrations in consciousness.
