CANELO ALVAREZ (MEXICO) vs AMIR KHAN (UK) KO FIGHT

Welcome guys thanks for joining me again in this update. I hope you’re all well. So guys, the fight between Amir Khan and Canelo Alvarez took place on May 7th, 2016, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was a highly-intriguing match-up, with Khan moving up two weight classes to challenge Alvarez for his WBC Middleweight title. Amir Khan was known for his speed and technical boxing skills. Now guys he took a significant risk by moving up from welterweight to middleweight to face Canelo, who at the time and still today, is a powerful and skilled fighter with a considerable size and strength advantage over a vast proportion of boxers even within his own weight class. Guys whenever you go up against Canelo I’m telling you now, you need some kind of cheat code or aimbot because he is so skilled as a pro boxer. He provides you with a good blend of speed, power, strength, defence, inside work; just a well developed professional boxer. I think this is different when we look at Khan because in my opinion, for a large portion of his professional career, he’s fought like an amateur boxer. Khan tends to throw more for speed and point scoring rather than specific targeting of vulnerable body areas to break the opponent down. This is in general but I think one of the major things Khan lacked in this fight was to use his feints. This would have given him a more efficient way of disguising his attacks and made Canelo a bit more hesitant in his approach. Instead, what Khan did was to utilise a lot of lateral movement to try and frustrate Canelo. However, because Canelo only had to keep up with Khan’s displacement and not really worry too much about what was coming back, Khan’s movement had more of a negative effect of resetting his own position as opposed to offsetting Canelo’s. Now don’t get me wrong, Khan did box well but it was only a matter of time before Canelo’s experience and the savvy of his professional style of boxing would take over Khan’s more rapid point-scoring amateur approach of boxing, during the long haul of the 12 round contest. Overall an amazing fight to watch!
