Visit Visit our website This educational film from the 1970s titled “Tomorrow is Cancelled” was produced by Advent Film Productions for the Narcotics Education Service in Sydney, Australia with special appreciation to the University of Sydney, Department of Pharmacology. It portrays a young woman and her partner getting caught in the world of drugs. The film is narrated by Peter Gwynne and edited by Russel Gibbs and Warren Judd who also functioned as producer and production assistant. The film is written and directed by Peter Spender, with the original concept by Ron Taylor, photographed by Richard Wallace, with music by John Sangster, make-up by Patricia Cunliffe, Continuity by Sue Milliken, and Lighting by George Harrington The film begins with children play at a playground (00:08). A young woman, Julie, receives a phone call at an office (00:41). Julie walks with a man, Rick, in the city of Sydney, Australia (01:11). She is sitting in her living room with her parents watching TV (01:40). A lot with cars for sale (02:01). She drives away in a white convertible car, she bought (02:21). Her parents are talking in the yard, as she arrives in her new car (02:49). She is cleaning the car (03:14). “Because of lack of interest…” written on screen (03:29). Streets are crowded with people and cars (03:35). Julie is eating breakfast with her parents (04:01). Her father leaves for work (04:05) followed by her (04:20). Her mother now sits alone at the table (04:28), and she lights a cigarette (04:36). A throwback beach party of Julie, Rick, and their high school friends (04:53). One young man lights a marijuana cigarette, and it is passed around (05:20). Rick hands the joint to Julie (05:42). The students continue to drink and smoke marijuana at the beach (06:01). Julie and Rick stroll down the beach highly intoxicated (06:49). Signs and lights of Sydney at night (07:13). Julie’s parents are dining at a restaurant (07:26). Students walking around a university campus (08:31). The Sydney skyline (08:41). Trafficked roads (08:56). Young people consuming alcohol and drugs on a beach (09:04). A game of American football (09:08). A young girl embroidering (09:31). Students in home ed class (09:35). Julie and Rick are drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana in a car (09:49). They get pulled over by the police and get arrested (10:36). Julie’s parents are reprimanding her and Rick following their arrest (12:10). Julie, her parents, and Rick are having a meeting with a lawyer (13:12). Examiners and test-subjects are performing tests to research the effects of drugs (13:55). The meeting with the lawyer continues (16:51). Clips of Julie and Rick throughout their relationship with each other and drugs (17:34). Julie is having psychiatric therapy and she is upset (18:37). Her and rick are at a party drinking alcohol and doing drugs (19:57). She gets highly intoxicated and is experiencing hallucinations of events of her past (20:51). Rick and her drive from the party, and they are going at a high speed (21:17). They crash the car (21:21). Rick cried as he holds Julie’s lifeless body (21:34). A cemetery (21:50). Julie’s burial (21:59). “Because of lack of interest… Tomorrow is cancelled” written on screen (22:03). The film is concluded with credits (22:10). The cast stars Belinda Giblin as Julie, Philip Bowman as Rick, Patricia Madgwick as Julie’s mother, Richard Tucker as the father, Moray Powell as the lawyer, and James Moss as the psychiatrist.
