Maria Daines ~ Is Death Enough?
‘Is Death Enough?’
The trees were sad
Their colours fell to the ground
The lake hid their leaves
Her tears became ice
It snowed in summer
And fire stole her shining light
The dawn prayed for spring
And the moon sharpened her teeth
On seashells, throwing stars
Into the orange wind
The red earth cried
We are the ne’er-do-wells
Wolves lost their homeland
And howled for days, for mercy
Peace crept beside them to death
The hunters followed, crying
What have we done?
So lonely, nothing left...
And in the sea the whales die
Silence in the Faroes
Where blood is infinite
Shed like rain into the sky
And we all scream
Why, why, why?
As fast as life itself
Wild horses lose their lands
And shelter from mankind
Have we killed enough?
Have we died enough?
Enough, enough, is death enough?
Is death enough? Is death enough?
Is death enough?
