’Horribly heterosexual’: Dance school mocked for calling ballet ’elitist, ’white’ art form

Author Douglas Murray says a UK dance school scrapping ballet over its “elitist“ and “white“ art form is sadly a totally normal story in today’s world. Leeds-based Northern School of Contemporary Dance has scrapped ballet from its school-entry auditions after reviewing the technical dance as “elitist“ and rooted in “white European ideas“. “Yes ... if there’s one remaining really patriarchal horribly heterosexual business in the world – it’s ballet,“ Mr Murray told Sky News host Rita Panahi. “We just got to make sure we get those bigots out of the way. “This is a sadly totally normal story in our time where places which are the least likely places to have any bigotry of any kind, a dance school say, suddenly self implodes and self-immolates because it seems to think it’s some kind of centre of bigotry and prejudice.“
