Acrylic Painting of Hollyhocks Flowers

I love painting flowers and these particular white Hollyhocks were growing wild in the backyard of my sister’s house in Kansas. As I begin painting, I always sketch with the paintbrush using similar colors of the subject because they may peek through the final work. The white flowers need a base of dark yellow so I use Transparent Oxide Yellow and some Indian Yellow. As I build up the whites, I mix the Oxide Yellow with Neutral Gray No. 8 to get the base color, always using brushstrokes following the form of the flower. Titanium white is gradually added for highlights. Acrylics often dry darker so many layers are needed to lighten the whites. I hope you enjoy this video and continue to follow me on my channel.
