Queen Opens New Hospital Wing (1946)

Unused / unissued footage - dates and locations may be unclear / unknown. Queen Elizabeth (Queen Mother) visits Victoria Hospital at East Grinstead on opening of new operating theatre. L/S of Queen on a stand with men and women of the hospital forming a guard of honour. Several shots of the Queen speaking from raised platform of covered stand (natural sound), thanking the funds from the United States that were raised for the new wing and operating theatre. Her face is obscured by BBC microphone throughout (probably the reason the film was not issued!). Shots of military band and crowd. Queen inspects nurses. Chats to nurses with flowers in her arms. General views of the scene. Queen opens new wing of hospital by turning key in the door and goes inside. She inspects equipment in operating theatre. Queen tours wards, chatting to patients. Queen inspects guard of honour and talks to child in a cot undergoing open air treatment. She also chats to some veterans, some sitting in wheelchairs
