Giovanni Battista Pergolesi - Sinfonia, Mvt 3 - Adagio - Hana Beloglavec and Liz Ames

Originally for cello and continuo, Ralph Sauer’s arrangement of this piece in sonata da chiesa form includes four charming movements of varying tempi and style. You might recognize the final movement of Pergolesi’s Sinfonia from Igor Stravinsky’s treatment in the “Duetto” or “Vivo” movement of his neoclassical work, Pulcinella Suite. In his suite, Stravinsky rewrites the final movement of Pergolesi’s Sinfonia as a duet for trombone and string bass. Pergolesi was a prolific composer though he passed away at the age of twenty-six and only composed in his final six years.
