Prior to the seismic event, keen observers had noticed a significant assembly of crows gathering low and circling in urban areas. The neighboring city of Haidong in Qinghai province experienced intense tremors. Soon after, an unusual phenomenon known as “sand surges“ unfolded in Qinghai, as waves of mud exceeding 3 meters inundated villages, encasing and demolishing numerous homes.
