Belarus’ Lukashenko suggests Russia-Ukraine peace talks may start by autumn

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who last month brokered a deal to end an armed mutiny in Russia, said on Thursday that Russian mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin was no longer in Belarus. Lukashenko also said he was ready to mediate Ukraine peace talks if Moscow and Kyiv deem it necessary. Lukashenko told the West that no attacks with nuclear weapons were planned, but that any show of aggression would be met with an immediate response. Later on the same day, Russian Presidential spokesperson Peskov said his country was “not monitoring“ the mercenary leader who led a short-lived mutiny against the Kremlin.
