GAME RECAP: Penguins at Lightning () | Jarry Gets Goalie Goal

The Pittsburgh Penguins traveled to Tampa, FL to play the Lightning for their second game of this road trip. This match-up was Drew O’Connor’s 100th NHL game, all of which have been played with the Penguins. Tampa wasted no time pushing the pace of the game early on, registering 17 SOG in the 1st. Able to convert on 2 of those shots, the Lightning had a 2-0 lead at the end of the 1st period. The Penguins regrouped and started playing a faster game to match the Lightning in the 2nd. Halfway through, Jake Guentzel chipped an area pass for Sidney Crosby to skate onto with speed. Able to get behind the defense by a step, Crosby shot over the goaltender’s shoulder and into the back of the net. With only 30 seconds left on the clock, Kris Letang passed the puck up the ice to Evgeni Malkin at the far blue line. Showing patience, Malkin hit the brakes to throw the timing of the Tamp defense off and put a pass between their legs to O’Connor on the backdoor.
