Harring comments: “When setting out to do this project, I felt we had to do “The Funerary Dirge of a Violinist“ because the piece had a soul. I have a very personal connection to the casualties of war having lost a family member in Afghanistan and wanted to explore what I believe these soldiers experience while serving on the front lines, which is what the piece is all about. The story of the violinist in particular, his frailty in the face of suffering and death, which ultimately leads to his undoing, is one that I feel everyone can connect to. The paranormal connection at the end of the piece was then meant to serve as a sort of bow to tie the story together as well as bring everything back home to C
