⭐️ ARGONOTA ➤➤ @argonota ⭐️ 🔘 Dziga Vertov’s enthusiastic and joyfully optimistic documentary, One-Sixth of the World, shows how people of all kinds in the Soviet Union, from the Kyrgyz to the Samis, are striving to buy machinery for their agricultural activity and become self-sufficient. It shows how they treat crops and animals, how they follow Lenin’s teachings across the country for a great future. For example, a series of images meant to be symbolic, of a Muslim woman with her face previously covered, removing her shawl, is sending a strong message. Using a style close to documentary, the film shows the diversity of Soviet peoples in the remote regions of the USSR, as well as the richness of the Soviet territory. By emphasizing Soviet diversity, the film calls for unification to build a “complete socialist society. The subtitles, which often interrupt the silent film, give the film an almost musical rhythm. Vertov plays a lot with the rhythm of the cuts, with the editing, and there are split screen solutions and transitions, such as the carriage on the split screen and the tractor next to it, as an image of the beautiful future imagined. A Sixth Part of the World (Шестая часть мира) is more than what is usually referred to as a “movie“. It is beyond the bounds of the drama, the comedy, or the successful artist’s film; it is already the next of cinema. Elle montre comment ils traitent les cultures et les animaux, comment ils suivent les enseignements de Lénine à travers le pays pour un grand avenir. Par exemple, une série d’images se voulant symboliques, d’une femme musulmane au visage préalablement couvert, retirant son châle. Utilisant un style proche du documentaire, le film montre la diversité des peuples soviétiques dans les régions reculées de l’URSS, ainsi que la richesse du territoire soviétique. En soulignant la diversité soviétique, le film appelle à l’unification pour construire une “ société socialiste complète “. Les sous-titres, qui interrompent souvent le film muet, donnent au film un rythme presque musical.
