Written by Pete Townshend, The Relay was recorded during the Join Together and Long Live Rock sessions in 1972 and was not included on the Who’s Next album. The Relay was the second-to-last non-album single by The Who. The Who original members Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, Keith Moon, and John Entwistle perform The Relay mimed while live on Old Grey Whistle Test in 1973.
