As a recording artist my creative process is to listen to the Earth and from a place of stillness, spontaneously sing in response to the land - in honouring and reverence. The video footage organically follows the live recording of the song as it unfolds in the moment. It is not like a usual music video with set shots, repeated takes and singing to a prerecorded song. It is on the fly, live location recording with ancient Earth. I share my experience as an artist with you in appreciation of the beauty and wonder of our planet. I sit quietly inside the belly of the ancient Earth work listening. The Earth rings like a bell. As do the stones of the structure sing. There is a resonance here as dawn’s light illuminates the circular stone complex. It’s dry rock walls are stacked meticulously with remotely sourced black reef shale high in quartz. Their curvature comparable to telluric currents of Earth energy, and scaled bodies of serpents. As I sing the melodies and vibrations of the land gently open out into an interconnected nexus of energy lines. Naturally flowing along the carved electrical rivers like a super conductor. Songlines pour in from all around and I have the sense of being connected to a sprawling city like circuitry radiating out far beyond the edges of the Kalahari Craton. I am sitting within one of over one million stone circles just like it, sown across the continent. Concentrated here in South Africa. The grand scale of the construction is extraordinary and everything about the old crust bedrock sings of replenishing life force energy. Copper, platinum, silver, titanium, uranium, manganese, chromium, iron ore, diamonds and gold. Bountiful and overflowing. The sound of deep volcanic Earth sustenance and mineral rich underground water permeates. As I sing I hear the movement of the people, the layered occupation and the myriad of human uses of the circles over hundreds of thousands of years. Beneath the surface of known history I hear an older intelligence encoded in the sophisticated design and sense the circle responding sympathetically to my own electromagnetic field. Interfacing. Magnifying. A reverberation, like striking bowls of water. Subtly amplifying and networking the cumulative energy out along the veins and synapses of the singing stones. I taught myself to sing, sitting on the Earth, with vast horizon lines and immense desert starscapes. For the last 7 years I have been called to return to the origins of my music making, to record Earth songs on the energy lines around the planet. I call it the - Planetary Grid Music Collection - an artistic exploration of sound mapping with the voice, field recording in nature and connecting with the Earth’s energetic system.
