Ukrainian troops withdraw from Avdiivka

Ukrainian forces have withdrawn from the eastern city of Avdiivka. Ukrainian troops are facing major ammunition shortages, exacerbated by months of stalling in US Congress on an aid bill. Ukraine’s military chief said troops were moved to defensive positions outside the town, to avoid complete encirclement and preserve the lives of Ukrainian soldiers. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy supports the decision to withdraw. However, Mr Zelensky said the move highlights the need for urgent assistance with weapons and ammunition.
