Damon Albarn on his latest record, Brexit and the melting Icelandic glaciers in his backyard

At the start of 2020 Damon Albarn started creating a solo-record full of hints to isolation. And then Covid came. A coincidence? It’s almost impossible. Everything Damon Albarn has done has this foreseeing element. Or how he puts it: ‘I don’t write songs about now, I write songs about the future.’ We had an extensive conversation with the man behind Blur and Gorillaz about Brexit and the climate crisis. How he nourishes on the sources of pop music and how traveling will always be his biggest inspiration. Even when it’s impossible to travel. ‘I swam as far as I could into the sea.
