Giant Seal TRAPPED in fishing net

This massive seal bull was sitting in the middle of his seal colony, freshly entangled in a piece of white plastic packaging strap. He was the biggest animal we have managed to catch in our net till now. He was so big, his fins did not fit into our custom build seal catching net. He was very confident, fast and strong. Once caught, Namib_Naude and Antoine from OCN had to be very fast because we were not sure how long he would stay calm enough for us to work on him. We managed to open the zipper just enough to cut the piece of ocean plastic and remove it from his neck. The seal was not hurt yet by the entanglement, no veterinary care was needed. Entanglements are animal abuse, caused by man made ocean rubbish and plastic pollution. This animal rescue was a massive success for Ocean Conservation Namibia, and raised the bar for us regarding the size of animal rescue we can manage.
