Kamikaze Attack - Battle of Okinawa

US Naval Task Force 58 in deadly combat against Japanese aircraft off the Ryukyu Islands during the Battle for Okinawa. Over 1,400 Kamikazes attacked day and night for three months in a desperate attempt to cripple and destroy a large number of Allied vessels and slow their advance on the Japanese home islands. Aircraft carriers were their prime target. ⁣ ⁣ I edited this video together with footage from the 1945 short propaganda film “The Fleet That Came To Stay”. The music is Shepard Risetone by Soundborne. The continually ascending pitch creates endless rising tension. I thought it was fitting for such a staggering spectacle. ⁣ ⁣ “At the very moment of impact: do your best. Every deity and the spirits of your dead comrades are watching you intently. Just before the collision it is essential that you do not shut your eyes for a moment so as not to miss the target. Many have crashed into the targets with wide-open eyes. They will tell you what fun they had.”⁣ -Kam
