“Sunday, 17 September The last stage of the Vuelta a España ends, as it often does, with several laps through the centre of Madrid. It is almost inevitable that there will be a sprint. In the past ten years, Sebastián Molano (2022), Pascal Ackermann (2020), Fabio Jakobsen (2019), Elia Viviani (2018), Matteo Trentin (2017), Magnus Cort (2016), John Degenkolb (2015, 2012) and Michael Matthews (2013) won in Madrid. After starting at the Hipódromo de la Zarzuela, a racecourse just outside Madrid, the Vuelta will finish as usual on a circuit in the Spanish capital. So the sprinters have plenty of opportunity to explore the finish.
