Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On - Jammin’ with friends at The Taps, Ilkley

Every Thursday a group of us meet upstairs at ’The Taps’ (pub) in Ilkley, West Yorkshire to jam through a few rock ’n’ roll songs together. This great, rock ’n’ roll standard was written by Dave “Curlee“ Williams and is usually credited to him and James Faye “Roy“ Hall. It was first recorded by Big Maybelle, though the best-known version is the 1957, Jerry Lee Lewis recording. It was Jerry Lee’s first and biggest hit record, reaching No. 3 on the Billboard pop chart and No. 1 on the Billboard R&B chart. The single also hit No. 1 on the country charts, and No. 38 in the UK. Lewis’s version of the song is ranked as the 61st greatest song of all time by Rolling Stone magazine. In 2005, it was selected for permanent preservation in the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress.
