Climate activists from various environmental and left-wing groups clashed with German police officers on Saturday afternoon during the anti-IAA Mobility 2021 car show demonstrators in Munich. Police charged the crowds of protesters after some activists from the “Sand im Getriebe“ (Sand in the gear) alliance climbed two trees to hang a banner reading “Convergence of struggles“ between them. In response to resistance in Luisenstrasse outside the IAA open space booths, officers used batons and pepper spray and confiscated umbrellas, trying to split demonstrators and pushed them away from the occupied area. As a result of scuffles, many demonstrators requested medical assistance because of the gas.
