Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst - Elegy (Op. 10)

Tonality: C minor The piece, originally for orchestra, has been transcribed for many instruments. Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst (1814-1865) was a Czech violinist and composer. He was a child prodigy and studied from a young age with Joseph Böhm (father of the hungarian violin school) and Ignaz von Seyfried (Mozart’s student and Beethoven’s friend, he conducted the premiere of his Fidelio). He succesfully performed in all Europe, but had to retire at a young age due to health problems. He was called the Czech Paganini, and it’s said that Paganini himself feared his abilities.
