“A Day In Essaouira“ by Parallelle with Maalem Omar Hayat
This last October, together with Maalem Omar Hayat and his crotales players, Parallelle performed a show combining Gnawa music infused with electronic music. Creating bridges between tradition and modernity, an image of the synergies of cultures. An initiative from Moga Festival, called Moga Creation.
A short film has been shot by Arnaud Moro to show Essaouira’s beauty and how two cultures collides through music.
With this ambitious new project, Parallelle have taken their musical venture even further by discovering different cultures, tribes and their specific sounds. This episode is the first one of the video series “A Day In” where Parallelle translate, through field recordings, a specific culture, city or country. It is said that “Music is the universal language” and Parallelle aims to show how it connects people as well as showing the world’s beauty and use music as a force for change.
