Escape from New York 1981 Synopsis

“Escape from New York“ is a dystopian science fiction action film released in 1981, directed by John Carpenter and starring Kurt Russell as the protagonist, Snake Plissken. The movie is set in a future America, where crime rates have escalated to unprecedented levels, leading the government to transform Manhattan Island into a maximum-security prison. The film opens in 1997 (then-future) when Air Force One is hijacked by domestic terrorists and crash-lands inside the heavily fortified prison of New York City. The President of the United States, portrayed by Donald Pleasence, is taken captive by the prisoners, who now control the island. In response, the government enlists the help of Snake Plissken, a highly skilled and cynical ex-soldier who is serving a sentence in the prison. Plissken is given a deal: if he can rescue the President and retrieve a valuable tape with sensitive information within 24 hours, he will receive a full pardon for his crimes.
