Using the free Neutaliser Noise Gate/Expander for Gated Reverb

The default settings for Witch Pig’s Neutraliser should be about right for using in front of a high gain style amp sim with overdrive. But for a real amp coming into the DAW via a load box, you might want to turn the threshold (bottom left) up to around 8. You can also experiment with the Expander (bottom right) to slow down the noise gate closing on sustained notes, and to let more background noise through for a more natural sound. To create a Gated Reverb sound for a snare drum (as in this video), route the snare drum to a new track in your DAW, and put a big reverb on it (I used ReaVerb). You will then need to adjust the Threshold control (bottom left) to set where the Noise Gate kicks in, and then fine tune it’s attack with the Expander control (bottom right), so that the reverb is cut off in time with the drum beat.
