Rwanda - Prisoner Exchange

(28 May 1994) Rebels of the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) embraced fellow members of the Tutsi minority tribe who had been taken from Kigali on U.N. convoys on Friday (27/5). Well-dressed, fairly clean and cheerful, a total of 240 refugees, virtually all of them Tutsis, had escaped machete-wielding gangs who killed countless numbers of their fellow Tutsis in the past seven weeks.
