Gigue Jacque Martin Hotteterre’s Opus 5 collection of suites for the transverse flute (or other high instruments) published in 1715 contains perhaps some of the most beautiful and innovative music that he ever wrote. This is quite a long suite at 9 movements, most of them being somewhat atypical examples of their respective dance forms. The first suite is here played on an original baroque oboe (hautboy, as it was called at the time) made by Thomas Stanesby Sr. which is now kept in the Hamamatsu Museum of Musical Instruments. Please note the oboe pictured in the thumbnail is a different oboe by Stanesby Sr. Performed on period instruments by: Masashi Honma - Hautboy by Thomas Stanesby Sr., c. 1700 Tetsuya Nakano - Viola da Gamba Mikiko Umezu - Harpsichord From the album ’Treasures of Baroque Oboe’ LMCD-1901
