Our Awakening/Gathering Song (Sing-Along)

New Video: Quick Note: The “ħ“ character is what I’ve come to use to represent the phlegm/guttural sound that the “q“ makes in the Mi’kmaw language. This video was made in the hopes of helping people to learn how to sing this popular Mi’kmaq song. Please bear in mind this is done to the best of my abilities, and variations are likely due to the vast number of different dialects of our people. If you notice any mistakes, please let me know so that I can try to have them corrected. Big thanks to those who made this video possible. Thank you to Kalo’lin for helping me to find the information I needed to get started, to for the lyrics/translation found on their website, and of course to Sons of Membertou for the song. Our Awakening, by Sons of Membertou, is a Mi’kmaq song frequently used in my region as a Gathering Song. To the best of my knowledge, it was originally released on a CD titled “The People of the Dawn“.
