Violent scenes in Israel as nationalists march to mark Jerusalem Day | ABC News

Tensions have flared between Israelis and Palestinians at the annual March of the Flags in Jerusalem. Thousands of right-wing Israelis have marched through the streets of Jerusalem into the Muslim quarter of the Old City, to mark Israel’s capture of East Jerusalem in 1967. The Jewish celebration is seen by Palestinians as a direct provocation, as some Israelis in the crowd chanted racists slogans, including “death to Arabs“. Police physically removed a number of Palestinians from the area, which is under Israeli occupation, according to International law.
