Russian Federation, 2007 Donate & Support: This powerful song performed by the “Ivan Tsarevich“ (“John the Prince“)band is a fantasy on the theme of the medieval Russian epic, borrowing a number of its characteristic features and creatively rethinking them. The plot, as it were, represents the messages of an unnamed Russian Prince to some fellow Khan, in which the tone of the Russian ruler changes from reverence to righteous anger, vividly depicting the bloody history of relations between Russia and the steppe nomads. Although the song is called «Иду на вы» (“I’m coming at you“, the aphoristic expression that goes back to the chronicle phrase «Хочю на вы ити» — “I want to come at you!“, attributed to Prince Svyatoslav, the famous pagan ruler of the Eastern Slavs), the words of the song clearly show that we are talking about the Christian era, and it is more reasonable to understand these nomadic enemies here not as Khazars or Pechenegs, but as Cumans or Mongol-Tatars. That is why we decided to take as the flag for this song the ancient Russian banner with the Savior and the medeval theme for the decoration of the video. Portrayed by Saint Dmitrij of the Don (1350—1389), the Muscovite prince who crushed the Tatars at the battle of Kulikovo, but his portrait also represents here the whole image of a righteous medieval Russian prince from the lyrics of the song.
