LIVE: Joe Biden delivers remarks on efforts to evacuate US citizens in Afghanistan

US President Joe Biden delivers remarks in Washington DC, on Tuesday, August 24, on the efforts to evacuate American citizens in Afghanistan and on how the G7 nations can come together in support of the Afghan people, following his meeting with other leaders of the group. On Saturday, August 21, Biden said that the US will do “everything that we can to provide safe evacuation for our Afghan allies, partners, and Afghans who might be targeted because of their association with the United States.“ The recent Taliban offensive followed the announcement in April that the US and other NATO states would be withdrawing their forces from the country. Former president Ashraf Ghani has since fled Afghanistan and the US has evacuated its embassy staff from Kabul, as have many other NATO states.
