LIVE: Unions take to streets of Paris to protest unemployment benefits reform

Ruptly is live from Paris’ Place d’Italie on Friday, April 23 as the unions General Confederation of Labour (CGT) and the Solidaires Unitaires Democratiques (SUD) take to the streets under the slogan ’Friday of Anger’ against the proposed reform of the French unemployment insurance scheme (UIS). The first part of the bill was introduced on November 1, 2019. The implementation of the second part of measures - which includes the change in the method of calculating unemployment benefits - was postponed twice due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic but is now set to come into force on July 1, 2021. Critics insist that the reform will worsen the unemployment benefits for the more vulnerable. The government says the reform will, among other gains, save billions of Euros and open up the right to unemployment benefits to reallocated employees and self-employed workers. #ParisProtests #tradeunionsFrance #FranceProtests #Paris #France
