Welcome to Kalmykia. This is life in the Russia you never see. Kalmykia is only Buddhist majority region in Europe! This Russian republic (larger than the country of Latvia) is nestled in the steppes of south east Europe and is home to the Kalmyk people, of Mongol origin and primarily of Buddhist faith. The Kalmyks emigrated across Eurasia 400 years ago, to settle in this baron land, bringing with them their unique culture and traditions. This windy, unique and relatively unknown region is one of the most incredible we’ve visited, hope you enjoy an insight into beautiful Kalmykia 🇷🇺
