Israeli soldier says they ‘had the privilege to flatten Gaza’

“I’m directed towards fulfilling the commandment of settling the land of Israel.” A video of an Israeli soldier standing on emptied land, stating that they have destroyed Gaza to “fulfill a commandment” and build settlements, was circulated on social media channels on Thursday. Since 7 October 2023, nearly 70 percent of Gaza’s 439,000 homes and about half of its buildings have been damaged or destroyed by Israeli air strikes and shelling. At least 1.9 million Palestinians have been displaced, with hundreds of thousands experiencing multiple displacements.
